German language learning available for Year 7 students onwards

DSM is now accredited to offer the German Language Certificate (Deutsches Sprachdiplom – DSD) for young adults (Year 7 students onwards) giving them an opportunity to maintain and further develop their advanced German language skills.zu The program prepares for the VCE exam in German and the German Language Certificate (Deutsches Sprachdiplom - DSD). The DSD program is open to former DSM students and students with equivalent German language skills. External students are very welcome to take part in the DSD I program; however their German language skills need to be assessed first. The minimum entry level is A2 (Common European Quality Framework) and will be determined via an examination which will be held on 23rd of November from 3.30pm to 6pm. If you wish your child to attend the examination, please register with .

The DSD I runs over three semesters and prepares students for the examination that they will sit in September of the second year. The following two years after the DSD I examination prepare students for the more advanced DSD II examination. By passing this exam, students demonstrate that they are proficient enough in German to commence with studies at a tertiary institution.

The DSD program at DSM is held twice-weekly at 90 minutes each. Lesson content is individualised to cater to the needs of individual learners and feedback is regularly provided to students and parents.

DSD I and DSD II examinations are held in 65 countries, with about 65.000 participants every year worldwide. The DSD offers an official certificate with centralized exams. The exam consists of four parts: a written essay, reading and listening comprehension, as well as oral communication. Evaluation of the written part is conducted in Germany, but students take the exam in their home country.

DSD I and 2 is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (Gemeinsamer Europäischer Referenzrahmen für Sprachen):

Level B1: basic use of the language; offers advantages for job applications.

Level B2/C1 (DSD I): independent use of the language; language proficiency certificate permits enrolment at a preparatory “Studienkolleg” in Germany
